New Year Craft: Tic Toc the Seasonal Clock

User Ratings: Not Rated

Start out the New Year by making this cute clock. Your child will have fun changing its face with each new season and learn to tell time as well!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 empty 21.8 oz. NESQUIK Powder canister
  • Clock kit (found at a craft store)
  • Markers
  • 4 large sheets of construction paper (choose 1 background color for each season)
  • Self-adhesive Velcro® strips

HOW TO DO IT

  • Wash and dry an empty NESQUIK Powder canister.
  • Color the seasonal faces of the clock. Cut out each clock face.
  • Cut 1 piece of construction paper for each season to measure 15 1/2 inches wide by 5 inches high. Glue the corresponding clock face to the center of the paper. (Suggested Background Colors: green for spring; orange for summer; blue for winter; maroon for fall.)
  • Cut a 1/4-inch hole in the center of each clock face, as indicated on the template.
  • (PARENTS ONLY) Cut a 1/4 inch hole in the front center of the NESQUIK canister with a utility knife. To insure that the clock face and canister hole match up, lay the clock face over the canister and make a small mark on the canister before actually cutting the hole.
  • Line up the holes on the canister and clock face and wrap the clock face piece around the canister. Secure with self-adhesive Velcro® strips.
  • Place the clock mechanism inside the canister and insert the clock stem through the hole. Attach the hands of the clock to the clock stem on the outside of the canister following the clock assembly directions.
  • Now your Tic-Toc the Seasonal Clock is ready to go!

TIPS

  • You can store the seasonal clock face pieces inside the NESQUIK canister for easy access.

FOLLOW UP FUN

  • If your child is just learning how to tell time, have him/her help you set the clock, showing him/her that the little hand tells the hour and the big hand the minutes past the hour.
