What You Need
  • 1 empty 6.75 oz. NESTLÉ JUICY JUICE box
  • 4 caps from NESTLÉ'S JUICY JUICE 64 oz. plastic bottles
  • 2 3-inch wooden dowels
  • 4 racing flag stickers (optional
  • Spray paint
  • 1-hole punch
  • 3 craft foam numbers
  • White masking tape
  • Safety scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Craft glue gun
  • Weights (quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies)
  • Race track (2 metal tracks: 3 5/8 inch x 10 feet with 1 1/4 inch sides. (Available at hardware or home improvement stores.)
How To Do It
  • Cut the back panel off of 1 empty NESTLÉ JUICY JUICE box. Rinse and dry.
  • (PARENTS) Spray the outside of the box with several coats of glossy spray paint. Be sure to spray in an area that is well ventilated. Allow it to dry.
  • Cut 2 strips of white tape to measure 1/4 inch wide x 7 1/2 inches long. Run the strips of tape approximately 1/4 inch apart, from the front to the back of the car.
  • Use a 1-hole punch to make two holes on each side of the car. The holes should be 1 inch in from the front and back of the car and 1/4 inch up from the bottom edges.
  • Insert one 3-inch dowel rod through the two front holes and one 3-inch dowel rod through the two back holes.
  • (PARENTS) Place a small mound of hot glue in the middle of 4 NESTLÉ JUICY JUICE caps. Attach one cap to each end of the wooden dowels. This forms the wheels of the car.
  • Glue craft foam numbers to the top and sides of the racecar.
  • Glue fun stickers to the outside of each wheel.
How To Play
  • Choose an area for your race track. You should look for a flat, straight spot at least 12 feet in length. For example: garage, patio or hallway.
  • Set up two tracks for your competition.
  • To do this, you will need two chairs set side by side.
  • Prop one metal track on the back of each chair to create a slanted race track.
  • The "starting line" is the end of the track supported by the back of the chair. (You may want to tape the track edges if they seem sharp.)
  • Print out the "finish line" template.
  • Tape the finish line several feet from the end of the track.
  • Have one child stand behind each starting line with their car placed on the track.
  • Call out, "On your marks. Get set. Go!"
  • Each child should let go of his car at this point.
  • The car that crosses the finish line first is the winner.
Tips
  • Have the children add weight to their cars by taping different coins to the underside of the cars. They can chart the coin's effect on the speed of the car.
Follow-Up Fun
  • Take the family to a local car museum or to the auto show when it comes to a city near you. They will get a chance to see all of the new cars, as well as some examples of the very first cars.
  • Have them collect brochures from the auto show or museum to make a "My Favorite Car" book when they get home.
