What You Need
  • 7 – Empty 4.23 oz. or 6.75 oz. NESTLÉ JUICY JUICE juice boxes (washed and dried)
  • 3 – 12 inch long, 3/4" thick dowel rods
  • 6 - 8-1/2 inch x 11 inch pieces of craft foam in different colors (available at craft stores)
  • Craft paint
  • Safety scissors
  • Non-toxic craft glue
  • 2 Colors of Nylon thread, 2mm thick
  • 2 pipe cleaners
  • 2 s-hooks
  • 1 - 6" Styrofoam ball
  • Starch
  • Newspaper
How To Do It
  • Clean and dry six empty NESTLÉ JUICY JUICE juice boxes.
  • Cut out 12 pieces of colored foam (2 of each color), the size of the front panel of the JUICY JUICE box, using the box to trace if necessary.
  • Glue pieces of colored foam to the front and back of each box. Let them dry for an hour or so.
  • Cut out A's, B's, C's and 1's, 2's and 3's using the template; two of each. Also cut out a few stars and a moon to glue onto the 7th box that will hang from the s-hook in the center.
  • Glue the letters and numbers to each side of the panels on top of the colored foam. Let dry for 30 minutes.
  • Put the three dowel rods through the 6" Styrofoam ball so that they are evenly spaced out at the ends. Put an s-hook in the top and the bottom of the Styrofoam ball.
  • Pour a small amount of starch into a bowl.
  • Tear small pieces of newspaper (about 1" squares) and drop them into the starch.
  • Take the starch coated newspaper pieces and cover the Styrofoam ball. Let dry by suspending over a big bowl.
  • Paint the ball with the craft paint and let dry.
  • Pull up the two top flaps on each side of the top of the juice boxes. Punch a hole in each flap.
  • Using nylon threads 8 inches - 14 inches long, string through both holes of the box, secure with a knot, leaving enough string to hang from dowels at varying lengths.(See illustration).
Tips
  • To help the drying process of the starch and paint, gently use a hair dryer.
Follow-Up Fun
  • Explain that the mobile is able to hang equally balanced by the weight of the boxes.
  • Practice writing out the alphabet with your child. If they don't already know it, teach them "The Alphabet Song".
