Expert Advice for Preschool
I want to introduce my 2 ½ year old to the Spanish language. He speaks English well, but I would like to expose him to something different. What is the best time to start introducing a new language? Do you have any recommendation on the best way to do it?

Debbie Drown, Educator, Principal, says:
Most of the experts will tell you that it is never too soon to expose children to a second language. The first question is, "Do you speak Spanish?" If so, you can begin by speaking to your child in Spanish and giving him the Spanish words for objects as you go about your daily routines. If you do not speak Spanish, research video/book/audio programs for young children that teach second languages. There are many picture books, music videos, etc. that use both English and Spanish. Also check with your local parks and recreation association to see if they offer classes in second languages for young children.
