Expert Advice for Preschool
Some of my son's friends have been diagnosed with ADD. How common is ADD? And what is it exactly?

Jeff Winckler, Educator, Father, says:
ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder. Attention Deficit Disorder is a biologically based condition causing a persistent pattern of difficulties, resulting in one or more of the following behaviors: inattention, hyperactivity (often diagnosed as ADHD) and impulsivity. Most physicians or physiologists can diagnose ADD. Teachers, childcare professionals and parents -- unless they are physicians or physiologists -- cannot. ADD is sometimes difficult to diagnose at an early age because many kindergarteners and early elementary students struggle with sustaining focus and time on a task.
