Expert Advice for GradeSchool

My husband and I love to run, but my daughter hasn't seemed to inherit our love of running - or any exercise for that matter. I've considered exposing her to numerous sports but I fear she'll rebel. How do I get her enthused but at the same time, not pressure her?

- Dana l, Austin, TX

Debbie Drown, Educator, Principal, says:

It's not unusual for children not to love the same sports as their parents. The key is to find out what they do like. I think your idea to expose her to various sports is a good one. Do a little research with your local parks and recreation associations to see if they offer a variety of classes that are short in duration. The park and recreation associations are usually less expensive than businesses set up for one sport. Explain to your daughter that you'd like her to try a few different activities to see which one(s) she likes the best and involve her in the research and decision making. Involving a friend is sometimes a good idea, too.
