What Our Experts Are Saying

How many times a day should I give my 4 year old daughter Juicy Juice Immunity? Should this be something I give her for every meal or just once a day? Jared, Arlington, TX
Yinka Davies

Dr. Yinka Davies, Pediatrician, Mother of Two, says:

The AAP recommends limiting to 4-6 fl. oz. of fruit juice daily. It is not advisable to allow your daughter to walk around with a sippy cup containing juice but rather give it as part of a meal or snack.
I'm always looking for products that give my child added benefits. How does Juicy Juice Brain Development Fruit Juice Beverage help support brain development? Mike, Seattle, WA
Yinka Davies

Dr. Yinka Davies, Pediatrician, Mother of Two, says:

Juicy Juice Brain Development contains DHA which is an omega-3 fatty acid especially important in brain development during the early years. Critical brain development takes places from 6 months to 2 years old and Juicy Juice Brain Development Fruit Juice Beverage is specially formulated for this early age group.

I have a child that has never tried fish. Therefore I have no idea if he is allergic to it or not. I noticed that there is Omega-3 from tuna in the new Juicy Juice Brain Development fruit juice beverage. If in fact my child turns out to be allergic to fish will they have an allergic reaction to this product?

Sarah, Raleigh, NC
Yinka Davies

Dr. Yinka Davies, Pediatrician, Mother of Two, says:

The source of the Omega-3 in Juicy Juice Brain Development is highly refined fish oil, specifically Tuna. Allergic reactions are caused by certain proteins in foods. The fish oil refining process removes the vast majority, if not all, of the fish proteins. According to allergen experts, the risk of getting an allergic reaction from highly refined oils of allergenic foods is very low. However, when dealing with food allergies it is always best to first check with your primary physician.

I'm a mom to a 7 month old baby girl. Is this an appropriate age to start her on juice beverages? If so, would the new Juicy Juice Brain Development be a good juice beverage to start with? BWa3bY, Sacramento, CA
Yinka Davies

Dr. Yinka Davies, Pediatrician, Mother of Two, says:

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), juice may be introduced to the diet when children can drink from a cup (approximately 6 months or older). Juicy Juice Brain Development Fruit Juice Beverage would be a great first juice beverage for your child as it provides DHA which is a building block for brain development. DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that is found in breast milk as well as some infant formulas.

While fruit juice beverages can certainly be a part of a healthy diet for your child, the AAP recommends limiting to 4-6 fl. oz. of fruit juice daily for children ages 1-6. If you are unsure, consult your pediatrician. Juicy Juice Brain Development is a great option as it provides nutrients children need without added sugars, preservatives, or artificial flavors or colors.

Lately I have been hearing from a lot of parents about DHA. What exactly is DHA and how will that help my child? What does DHA stand for? Lucy, Kansas City, MO
Yinka Davies

Dr. Yinka Davies, Pediatrician, Mother of Two, says:

DHA stands for Docosahexaenoic acid. DHA is an Omega-3 fatty acid that may be beneficial for brain development in young children. DHA is found in most tissues of the body and is especially abundant in the brain and retina.

I have a young child that still likes to drink from a bottle. Will filling up her bottle with Juicy Juice Brain Development be too much for her to consume? Is there such thing as too much DHA or Omega-3? Lisa, Atlanta, GA
Yinka Davies

Dr. Yinka Davies, Pediatrician, Mother of Two, says:

If you are considering introducing juice remember not to start before 6 months of age. It is recommended that you give fruit juice to those children ready to drink from a cup and never from a bottle.

The amount of DHA in Juicy Juice Brain Development is 16 mg per 4 fluid ounces. The serving size for your young child should only be 4-6 fl. oz. of fruit juice per day. Because the US population generally consumes lower intakes of foods rich in DHA when compared to populations in some other countries, it is unlikely that one will get too much DHA in the diet. If you are unsure, consult your pediatrician.
