TOOLS & TEMPLATES

PUPPETS

WHAT YOU NEED
These are suggestions for a 'little feathered friend' and 'spotted puppy' puppet. Let your child use his or her imagination to create lots of other puppet pals.
  • NESTLÉ JUICY JUICE plastic bottle caps (1 for each puppet)
  • Craft stick (1 for each puppet)
  • Craft foam
  • Craft glue gun
  • 1 package google eyes (available at craft stores)
  • 1 can of orange spray paint
  • 1 pack of colored craft feathers (available at craft stores)
HOW TO DO IT
  • Print out the puppet templates.
  • Use the template to cut out body pieces from the appropriate pieces of craft foam.
  • Glue each of the puppets' body pieces together.
  • For the 'little feathered friend' puppet's head, spray paint the JUICY JUICE cap orange, let it dry.
  • Glue the top of each puppet's body to the top of the juice cap. The orange cap for the bird and the white cap for the puppy.
  • Now glue one craft stick down the back of each puppet starting just where the cap and body are joined. You should have approximately 4 inches of craft stick below the puppet body. This forms the puppet handle.
  • Add faces to each puppet. 'Feathered Friend' will need two google eyes, a yellow craft foam beak (see template) and a feather glued to the top of his head. 'Spotted Puppy' needs two google eyes, floppy ears and a nose and mouth (see template).

PUPPET THEATER

WHAT YOU NEED
  • Cardboard file box (15.5 inches wide x 12.25 inches high x 10 inches deep
  • Acrylic or tempera paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Pencil
  • Safety scissors
  • Solid color dark fabric ( 2 pieces - 12.25 inches high x 8 inches wide)
  • Hot glue gun
HOW TO DO IT
  • Cut out the bottom of a cardboard file box.
  • Use a pencil to draw the scenery inside of the box. The top of the box will be the sky, with clouds and a sun; the sides of the box can be painted with trees; the bottom of the box can be painted as green grass. (See illustration)
  • Hot glue two pieces of fabric to the top back of the box, leaving an opening in the middle to create the back curtain.
  • This puppet theater can be set on tabletops of kitchen pass-throughs. Your puppeteers kneel behind the table and hold the puppets up between the back of the theater and the curtains.
TIPS
  • Your child may want to change the scenery in the Puppet Theater. If so, try lining the sides of the box with pieces of colored flannel. Your child can cut out 'props' from felt or flannel and stick them to the background.
FOLLOW UP FUN
  • Encourage your children to write an original story for their puppets and have a Puppet Theater Presentation for the rest of the family.
  • When planning your next car trip, take along several of these cute puppets. Back Seat Puppet Shows will keep everyone entertained!

Jason, my man. Dont listen to this article. Puppets have been found to be child versions of shock and awe military tactics. Puppets will scar your kids minds for life. Try taking them to movies or build-a-bear like normal parents. If all else fails, give them a ton of juicy juice and then theyll be out for the count.
