Mom's Back-To-School Guide: 7 Tips For A Smooth Transition

User Ratings: Not Rated

It's the time of year where leisurely summer afternoons start to wind down - and that hectic routine of packing lunches, helping with homework and shuttling your child to activities is about to gear up. This year, think of back-to-school as a traditional event worth celebrating!

By planning ahead, you and your child can enjoy a smooth and enjoyable changeover. Here's how:

1. Reach out to your child's teacher to ask some important questions prior to the first day of school.

2. Collaborate with your child to develop organized habits before starting the new school year; creating a study area, tidying his or her room and planning ahead can be building blocks for academic success!

3. Take time to sit down together and go over the tentative schedule for the upcoming year; it will help you both reduce any stress regarding the first day of school.

4. Since helping your child study is important to you, try to make index cards a primary academic tool. These time-tested study-buddies are great for moms with a busy schedule because they are small enough to pull out for review anywhere, anytime!

5. If your child is nervous about fitting in socially, remind him or her that every student shares those same reservations before the first day and that everybody will be looking for new friends in the beginning. Knowing that your child is in a good state of mind will help ease your own anxieties about his or her well-being.

6. In the weeks preceding the first day, slowly acclimate your child to a sleep schedule that closely resembles the school year. Try to get them to turn in and wake up a few minutes earlier each day. This will provide you both with ample time to adjust.

7. When it comes to back-to-school supplies, consider some budget-friendly options before hitting the stores, like homemade crafts. Not only will they save you money, they're also a great way to bond with your kids.
