Living a healthy life means making good choices. Studies show that families that have fruits and vegetables around eat more of them.
Help teach your child learn to make good food choices by:
• Setting a good example of eating fruits and vegetables every day, as this will encourage your child to do the same.
• Make a game of getting a variety of colors in their diet everyday with different physical characteristics - such as, crunchy, juicy, crispy and colorful.
• Don't force your child to eat fruits and vegetables. Remember that it will take time and the frequent offering of the same fruit or vegetable before your child acquires a taste. This is a learning experience, part of their growth and development.
• Most fruits are sweeter than many vegetables - so offer a food they like with one that is new and less sweet.
• Keep fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator sliced and ready to eat for a handy snack and/or addition to a meal.
• Offer lots of choices, let your child help shop, clean and prepare for meals and snacks.
