Fit For Fall

User Ratings: ****No Star

Autumn means crisp air, falling leaves, and a bustle of activities. School starts again, and new commitments cram the calendar as schedules shift at home, at work, and at play. Use the checklist below to anticipate the busy days to come.

• Rise and shine! If school or other commitments require earlier waking, start adjusting the alarm clock a few weeks ahead of time.
• Chart your kids' day-to-day activities with a back-to-school activity calendar. Click here for step-by-step instructions.
• Secure spots on fall sign-up lists for sports and activities. Whether you're enrolling your preschooler in a fall soccer clinic or choosing your favorite afternoon to volunteer at your kids' schools, you'll want to be at the top of the list.
• Hit the road for a final weekend getaway. Visit extended family or close friends who may be difficult to see once the school year starts.
• Take advantage of back-to-school on clothes and school supplies. Create a list with the kids of what they need, want, and already have from last year. Post it on the refrigerator so you're ready when the ads hit the papers.
• Catch the colors of fall at home, too. Cover a dingy wall with a coat of rich, bold paint or enhance your front porch with some vibrant autumn annuals.
• Head back to school to learn something new. Enroll in a part-time program toward the degree you've always wanted. Join a book club at your local library or sign up for a community education course that interests you.

That is what I have been doing for years. It is best to use a lunch bag that is slightly insulated and lined with something waterproof. I also wrap the frozen drink box in a paper napkin. It does not get sopping damp, just nicely damp to better wipe off sticky mouths. Of course, that might be because of the high humidity here in the Deep South.
